Gifts to the parish and the parish community of St. Michael come in many forms. We all understand the impact of financial gifts made through the offertory or building fund and the power of prayer is great. However, many of us forget the value of the countless hours given by volunteers.
Volunteer ushers, Eucharistic Ministers and readers assist with the daily and weekend Masses. The Parish relies on volunteers for mailings to parishioners at Easter and Christmas and it is volunteers that count the collection every week. Outreach to our community is almost entirely volunteer with Befrienders reaching out to the homebound and those in local hospitals and care facilities. Volunteers ensure that there is always someone to give food and assistance to the needy in our area. It’s also volunteers that teach and care for our children during the Liturgy.
We should not underestimate the impact that these people have on our parish. What would the cost be to the parish if we had to pay even minimum wage for the countless hours given to so many of our programs? Could we offer the Sunday Nursery, host Donut Sundays or watch the Sunday Mass on local television? Who would make sure that there were altar servers for weekend Masses and that they were fully trained?
Please take time to thank all those volunteers who make so much possible at St. Michael’s. It’s always good to know that you are appreciated.
If you would like to join our team of volunteers, please contact the Parish Office or the volunteer responsible for the program in which you are interested. |
